Racing Incident Report

DANRIVA jumped very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PRIME VAIN which then shifted ground and made contact with SCENIC STAR. When the gates opened, TRIPLE DRAGON bounded in the air. TRIPLE DRAGON raced greenly throughout, approaching and rounding the Home Turn hung out badly. The performance of TRIPLE DRAGON was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. E Legrix (CONVERGENCE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 800 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of other runners. As a consequence of this, unnecessary crowding was caused to MUNDAHISH and JUST IN TIME, and EXPLOSIVE POWER which was travelling inside those runners lost running to which it was entitled and was checked. After taking full account of all the evidence, the submissions made by E Legrix and the unique circumstances of the case, it was decided that the appropriate penalty was he be fined $150,000. R Fradd (TOM'S FIRST) said he had been instructed to ride the horse somewhere just off the pace if possible. He explained he had only ridden TOM'S FIRST on one occasion previously, that was some time ago and had not been on the horse's back since it last ran. He said TOM'S FIRST left the gates well, but was then inclined to over-race and proved difficult to settle. He said about the 900 Metres TOM'S FIRST continued to pull, it became unbalanced when being steadied to take up a position behind MUNDAHISH which was shifting in when barely clear. He went on to say the horse travelled about well as it was intended, but the manner in which it over-raced clearly had a bearing on the horse's run today. He pointed out TOM'S FIRST was well beaten in the early part of the Straight and accordingly he did not ride it out over the concluding stages as he normally would. In retrospect he was of the view it may have been in the interests of the horse to allow to stride along more in the early stages. TOM'S FIRST was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
