Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, BLESSINGS' PARTNER bounded in the air. LOK WAH TREASURE jumped satisfactorily, however, just after the start when being steadied threw its head up. On jumping, BY INSTINCT shifted in and bumped HIGHLIGHT. About the 500 Metres, HIGH FIVE, which was having difficulty maintaining its forward position, was checked when crowded for room between BLESSINGS' PARTNER which momentarily got its head on the side and shifted in and ELECTRONIC SEEKER which shifted out from behind QUEST FOR LUCK which was starting to give ground. When HIGH FIVE checked, HAIL WINNER, which was following, was checked and shifted out and RISING INDEX was checked quite severely. Inconvenience was also caused to FORTUNE TYCOON. In view of all the circumstances, no action was taken. In the run to the line, THE RICH MAN shifted out. As a consequence of this, HIGHLIGHT was taken out. When questioned, Apprentice M W Leung (FORTUNE TYCOON) said before the race he had been instructed by Mr A T Millard, trainer, that from a difficult gate there was little likelihood of him being able to go forward and clear runners on his inside and he therefore today because of the draw should ride FORTUNE TYCOON in a rearward position and in the Straight shift to the centre of the track and ensure the horse closed the race off strongly. Apprentice M W Leung said FORTUNE TYCOON travelled well at the rear and in the Straight he was able to obtain running until about the 300 Metres and FORTUNE TYCOON then went to the post well. Mr A T Millard, trainer of FORTUNE TYCOON, confirmed he had instructed Apprentice Leung mainly because of the bad draw to ride FORTUNE TYCOON back in today's race. Mr Millard did say he was aware FORTUNE TYCOON had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight but overall was satisfied with the way in which the horse had been ridden. The explanations submitted by Apprentice Leung and Mr Millard were accepted. HIGHLIGHT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
