Racing Incident Report

BIA DESERT missed the start. ETERNAL FUN left the gates very awkwardly with its head up, then shifted in abruptly. Just after the start, the saddle on ETERNAL FUN shifted back, placing E Saint-Martin at a disadvantage for the rest of the race. MAJESTIC WARRIOR was slowly away. Running towards the Home Turn, SUPER FORCE was inclined to pull when racing close to the heels of EVER GLORY, then after the 200 Metres was steadied and shifted out to avoid EVER GLORY. When questioned, S K Sit (ME FIRST) said he had been instructed by the trainer to leave the gates quickly, go forward, then try and allow the horse to be covered up. He said ME FIRST missed the start a little, he rode along for a short distance, but realised had he continued to do so, he would have been caught wide in the early stages and he thought this would have given ME FIRST no chance of success. He therefore made the decision to steady in the run to the winning post the first time, took up a position at the rear but close to the rail and with cover. He said because ME FIRST was being ridden back, the horse proved difficult to settle and pulled. He went on to say just before straightening he shifted to the extreme outside and ensured ME FIRST had an uninterrupted run to the line and rode the horse out. On this occasion, the explanations submitted by S K Sit were accepted. When asked about the poor performance of COUNTRY DRAGON, F Coetzee said he had ridden the horse in some of its recent work and had given the horse the final gallop before tonight's race. He said this work was good, the final gallop was strong and it was anticipated by the stable COUNTRY DRAGON would run well this evening. He said the horse bounded in the air a little at the start, he had to make more use of it than he would have wished in an effort to clear DANRIVA which he was able to do by about the 1000 Metres, took up the position just off the leader where COUNTRY DRAGON travelled satisfactorily. He said however running towards the Home Turn when put under pressure, COUNTRY DRAGON commenced to give ground and dropped out. He was unable to put forward any explanation for the disappointing run. COUNTRY DRAGON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, COUNTRY DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said he was unable to find any abnormality. The performance of COUNTRY DRAGON was considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be require to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. DANRIVA and MASTER YING were sent for sampling.
