Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, GREAT KID became quite fractious, missed the start and got well back, then over the concluding stages hung out. Turning out of the Straight the first time, GRACIOUS FELLOW and KING LION were momentarily crowded by ANIMATED PLAYTHING which was taken in slightly by CHAMPION RANGER (W M Lai). W M Lai was told to exercise more care. From a difficult gate, TAMBORA STAR was obliged to race very wide in the early and middle stages and over the concluding stages dropped out. Near the winning post, FORTUNE GLORY, which was making some ground, was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of G Schofield (KING LION). The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred near the winning post when ANIMATED PLAYTHING shifted out which caused interference to NEW CENTURY which cast doubt on whether ANIMATED PLAYTHING should be declared the winner. After viewing the available films and after the members of the panel had expressed their opinions, the Stewards believed this was not an appropriate case in which they should exercise their special powers under Rule 123. Accordingly weighed-in was semaphored, confirming the Judge's placings. Whilst it did not influence the decision of whether the Stewards should exercise their powers under Rule 123, it should be noted that neither Jockey D Whyte (NEW CENTURY) nor the connections of NEW CENTURY lodged a protest/objection. TAMBORA STAR and KING LION were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, TAMBORA STAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were detected. He also examined KING LION and said the horse was lame in its right front leg. Before KING LION can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. ANIMATED PLAYTHING and NEW CENTURY were sent for sampling.
