Racing Incident Report

TWIN WIZARDS left the gates awkwardly with its head up, shifted in and bumped PRINCESS BEAUTY. Just after the start, TWIN WIZARDS and PRINCESS BEAUTY again came together. CALVADOS was slowly away. From a difficult gate, REFRESHINGLY was obliged to race wide throughout, proved difficult to settle and was not able to find any cover. About the 800 Metres, BELOVED PARTNER was steadied when unable to maintain its position between HOLY RANTO and the hindquarters of TWIN WIZARDS which was shifting over slightly to race beside PRINCESS BEAUTY. About the 400 Metres, BELOVED PARTNER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HOLY RANTO and tight inside WELL CONTEND. In the early part of the Straight, POWER OF SUCCESS had some trouble obtaining clear running, then after the 100 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of SECOND OPINION. When questioned, W M Lai (WELL CONTEND) explained it had been his intention to race in about the 3rd or 4th position if possible. He said WELL CONTEND left the gates well, commenced to pull, he was receiving a lot of calling from M Cahill (HOLY RANTO) on his inside and had to exercise care. He said running towards the first turn BELOVED PARTNER was inclined to be shifting across his running, this also caused him concern. As a consequence of this, he was obliged to steady, lost his position and got much further back in the early stages than was the intention. He went on to say on the first turn when travelling behind BELOVED PARTNER, he lost further ground when that horse eased in front of him, after this he was obliged to shift out. W M Lai was told his riding in the early and middle stages had come under notice, it is his responsibility to endeavour to ride in a manner which is not open to query from any quarter. When questioned, W C Marwing (SPOT ON) said his first ride on the horse had been over 1000 Metres at Happy Valley where SPOT ON had left the gates poorly, could not keep up, but did finish the race off quite satisfactorily. From a draw towards the middle at its next start at Happy Valley over 1650 Metres, he was asked to give the horse a good chance in the run and it was anticipated by the stable SPOT ON would run well. He said however the horse did not pick the bit up at any stage and was very disappointing. Today from a good draw, he had been instructed by the trainer to put the horse under pressure in the early stages and make sure it was competitive. Mr S Woods, trainer of SPOT ON, confirmed what W C Marwing had said, but added the last run of the horse bitterly disappointed him, today he did direct W C Marwing to somewhat "stand over" SPOT ON and put the horse forward, if SPOT ON were to lead, then that would be acceptable. Mr Woods said it is difficult for him at this stage to predict the racing pattern of SPOT ON for the future as horses with this type of temperament can be inconsistent in their running styles. The explanations submitted by W C Marwing and Mr Woods were accepted. SOUNDS GOOD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer examined SOUNDS GOOD. An endoscopic examination was carried out which he said revealed there was a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before SOUNDS GOOD can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. MILLENNIUMTREASURE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. MILLENNIUMTREASURE was also examined by the Veterinary Officer and on scoping it was noted a significant amount of mucus in the windpipe indicating the horse had a respiratory disease. Before MILLENNIUMTREASURE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. BELOVED PARTNER, CHAMPION BOY and WELL CONTEND were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted HOLY RANTO had lost its left hind plate.
