Racing Incident Report

CHIU CHOW BROTHER was withdrawn on 29.9.02 on veterinary grounds (colic) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRICCOLO (E Saint-Martin). SUPER SPRINT bounded in the air at the start. DIAMOND MOON jumped very awkwardly and bumped the outside of its starting stall. SEASONS TREASURE came from the gates awkwardly, shifted in, made contact with CLASSIC MASTER and just after this was checked when crowded between TRICCOLO and CLASSIC MASTER which was taken out by LIFELINE EXPRESS. The occurrence was accidental. About the 900 Metres, LUCKY STALLION was steadied when SELF FLIT shifted onto the rail and to a position behind SUPER SPRINT. No action was taken. After the 800 Metres, CLEMENT SUPREME got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ZIETENGO BOY. For some distance after the 700 Metres, MY CHIEF was awkward when close to the heels of LUCKY STALLION and tight inside ZIETENGO BOY. Rounding the Home Turn, CLASSIC MASTER hung out. After straightening, CLEMENT SUPREME was shifted out a long way to find running, then when being ridden out hung in. After the 400 Metres, SEASONS TREASURE was steadied when awkwardly placed between TRICCOLO which was giving ground and BOWMAN'S CROSSING. F Coetzee (LUCKY STALLION) said although the horse can be difficult on the track in the morning, its lead up in today's race has been in his opinion good. From a good draw, he did anticipate to give LUCKY STALLION the run of the race and it was expected by the stable LUCKY STALLION would be competitive and they considered the main danger to be SELF FLIT. He said in the early stages to have maintained a position behind the leader would have meant riding along more than he wanted to, accordingly he steadied and let SELF FLIT shift in front of him. He said he travelled in this position until after straightening, when put under full pressure LUCKY STALLION commenced to give ground and dropped out and was very disappointing. LUCKY STALLION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, the horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. The performance of LUCKY STALLION, a last start winner, was considered to be unacceptable. Before the horse will be allowed to race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SEASONS TREASURE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. SELF FLIT and CLEMENT SUPREME were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports from 1 October 2002 Race Meeting
The Stewards have today (2/10) received veterinary reports from Dr Brian Stewart, Senior Veterinary Officer, regarding yesterday's Sha Tin meeting.
LUCKY STALLION: The horse was examined after racing yesterday and no significant findings were detected, however, when examined at the stable of Mr A S Cruz today, Dr Stewart said LUCKY STALLION was showing evidence of being acutely sore in the lower back (sacroiliac sprain). He said it was likely the injury occurred during yesterday's race. As reported yesterday, LUCKY STALLION will not be allowed to race again until it performs satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and passes an official veterinary examination.
