Racing Incident Report

ENLIGHTENMENT, which had drawn towards the outside, was steadied on jumping to take up a rearward position. When being steadied however, the horse became unbalanced and threw its head about. MARK OF EXCELLENCE left the gates awkwardly, then just after the start clipped the heels of FLAGS UP which shifted out and knuckled. On jumping, UNIVERSAL PEGASUS and ACME OF SURPRISE bumped. GOOD WIN proved very difficult to settle in the early stages and raced for some time with its head in the air. About the 1200 Metres, HAPPY WINNING, which was inclined to be pulling, shifted ground and bumped PORTER RICKS. Near the 800 Metres, ENLIGHTENMENT, which was proving difficult to settle, threw its head about when close to the heels of FELICITY. Near the 400 Metres, FELICITY was momentarily held up for running between HAPPY WINNING and UNIVERSAL PEGASUS. R Fradd (HAPPY WINNING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 400 Metres, he shifted his mount outwards across the heels of UNIVERSAL PEGASUS when not clear of BLACK CARBINE. As a result of this, BLACK CARBINE struck the heels of HAPPY WINNING, knuckled and nearly fell. OCEAN ACROSS, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Some inconvenience was also caused to GOOD WIN. R Fradd was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 8 December 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting next Wednesday 27 November 2002 at Happy Valley. Just after the 400 Metres, PORTER RICKS shifted out slightly away from ACME OF SURPRISE, in doing so made contact with UNIVERSAL PEGASUS. Near the 300 Metres, SHOGUN shifted out and bumped GREAT SENSATION. In the run to the winning post, ACME OF SURPRISE was shifting in. As a consequence of this, O Doleuze stopped riding and straightened. S Dye (MARK OF EXCELLENCE) explained after clipping the heels of FLAGS UP just after the start, his mount was badly unbalanced and took some time to regain its action. He said rounding the Home Turn there was an opportunity for him to improve inside FELICITY and race a little bit closer to the heels of ACME OF SURPRISE, however, he elected not to do so as he was wanting to ensure MARK OF EXCELLENCE was properly balanced whilst cornering. PORTER RICKS, ACME OF SURPRISE and MARK OF EXCELLENCE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported OCEAN ACROSS was lame in its left front leg. Before OCEAN ACROSS can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 25 Nov. 2002) :
On returning to the stable after racing yesterday, it was noted OCEAN ACROSS was bleeding from both nostrils. The matter was reported by Trainer K C Lo.
