Racing Incident Report

Just as the gates opened, MEMBERS GLORY (Y T Cheng) reared, became cast and therefore was not able to jump. MEMBERS GLORY was freed from the gates and took no part in the race. The Stewards delayed the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that MEMBERS GLORY may have had an unfair start [Rule 12(19)]. However, after viewing all the available films and considering the evidence submitted by Y T Cheng, the Stewards believed this was not an appropriate occasion on which they should exercise their powers under Rule 12(19). Before MEMBERS GLORY can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. TELECOM PRINCE was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, VENETIAN MASTER shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ALLEGRO. At the 1800 Metres, WONDERFUL LIFE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HAPPY FORTUNE. Some inconvenience was caused to EXCELLENCE FOREVER which was to the outside of WONDERFUL LIFE. At the 1600 Metres, WONDERFUL LIFE, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of ALLEGRO. At the 800 Metres, EXCELLENCE FOREVER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of VENETIAN MASTER. On straightening, ENORMOUS WAY was steadied and shifted to the outside of SUPER SIXTY-SIX to obtain clear running. This caused some inconvenience to ALLEGRO. Also on straightening, VENETIAN MASTER, which was endeavouring to shift out to find clear running, was steadied away from the heels of SPEED WINNER. After this, VENETIAN MASTER shifted to the inside of NOT GUILTY and almost immediately became unbalanced on the heels of SONGS OF PRAISE. G Mossé (SUPER SIXTY-SIX) said he rode the horse in a rearward position as usual. He said his mount travelled a little keenly in the early stages, however, he was satisfied with the manner in which it was travelling. He added when GOT IT RIGHT improved its position after the 800 Metres, he elected to go forward on SUPER SIXTY-SIX, although this meant being three wide, so as not to lose touch with the leaders. He said SUPER SIXTY-SIX was a beaten horse shortly after straightening and did not respond to his riding. He said following the race SUPER SIXTY-SIX appeared to pull up well and he had been riding the horse in its track work leading up into today's race and this in his opinion had been "perfect". G Mossé attributed the performance of SUPER SIXTY-SIX today to the fact that he made his run from approaching the 700 Metres and said in his opinion the horse is better suited when held up for a late run. Before SUPER SIXTY-SIX can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SUPER SIXTY-SIX was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SUPER SIXTY-SIX was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. SONGS OF PRAISE and GOT IT RIGHT were sent for sampling.
