Racing Incident Report

On jumping, PEPPERONI and HONOUR SUPREME brushed. Near the 200 Metres, LUCKY PARADISE was shifted to the inside of PEPPERONI which was giving ground. D Beasley (WINNING COUNTER) said he had been instructed to ride the horse either in the lead or just off the pace. He said WINNING COUNTER began on terms with the field and despite his riding in the early stages failed to muster speed as anticipated. He said this allowed FLYING GENERAL to cross him in the early stages and when this occurred he steadied his mount for a stride in an endeavour to get it properly balanced, however, it dropped the bit, got its head on the side and this allowed LOYAL DEVOTION to also cross him, causing him to be further back than he had wished. D Beasley was told to ensure he does his utmost to maintain his position during the run when circumstances permit. F Coetzee (LUCKY PARADISE) said he had been riding the horse in its work leading into tonight's race and this included a recent jump out. He said on that occasion LUCKY PARADISE began only fairly. He said the intention tonight was to be in a forward position, however, when the gates opened LUCKY PARADISE again began only fairly and then despite his riding got further back than was anticipated. He said in the Straight LUCKY PARADISE closed the race off fairly and in his opinion the overall performance of the horse indicated it is now looking for a distance further than tonight's 1200 Metres. LUCKY PARADISE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, LUCKY PARADISE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. HONOUR SUPREME and FLYING GENERAL were sent for sampling.
