Racing Incident Report

HEALTHY FRUITS was withdrawn on 5.4.03 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPEED LORD (F Coetzee). Before being allowed to race again, HEALTHY FRUITS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SPEED LORD and TOP PRIZE were slow to begin. On jumping, SAINTLY PARTNERS bounded in the air and hit the inside gate of its stall. Over the final 400 Metres, SOLID CONTACT hung in. Throughout the race, CONJURING lay out. D Whyte (ANABATIK) said he had only ridden the horse in some light work leading up to the race, however, the stable was confident of success in today's race. He said KENWOOD MELODY, which had been drawn to his outside, was fractious in the gates and its rider, D Dunn, was calling for assistance and then when the gates opened, ANABATIK mistimed the start and as a consequence was slow to begin. He said however after this ANABATIK failed to muster speed as anticipated, did not respond to his riding over the concluding stages and in his opinion was most disappointing. He did say ANABATIK received some crowding at about the 800 Metres between SAINTLY PARTNERS and KENWOOD MELODY which shifted in, however, this crowding was of little significance. Trainer J Moore said he was pleased with ANABATIK leading into today's race and its track work in his opinion, despite some reports to the contrary, had been pleasing. He said he anticipated ANABATIK would race further forward as it usually is a good beginner. He said he attributed today's performance to ANABATIK being slow to begin and having to carry 133 lbs. ANABATIK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of ANABATIK after the race did not reveal any significant findings. TOP PRIZE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, TOP PRIZE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. CHARIOT OF STORM and VICTORY WARRIOR were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SPLENDID PATROL had bled from both nostrils.
