Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, CHERISHED began very awkwardly, got its head up and lost a significant amount of ground. STRATEGIC SELECT and CHAMP DE UNION were slow to begin. C'EST LA VIE was a little slow to begin, was then ridden along to go forward, was caught wide making the first turn and then was steadied to shift in close to the rail but at the rear. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, KOWLOON STAR became unbalanced when close to the heels of ARMONDO. Near the 1200 Metres, CHERISHED was crowded for room by NATIVE LANGUAGE. On straightening, C'EST LA VIE was steadied and shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of TURF LUCK which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, NATIVE LANGUAGE, which was beginning to close off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the inside of FIGHTING MASCOT to continue going forward. D Dunn (TURF LUCK) explained he had been instructed to go forward from the wide barrier tonight, follow FIGHTING MASCOT across and hopefully obtain cover in about 4th or 5th position. He said TURF LUCK began well, he went forward as instructed, was unable to obtain cover when CHAMP DE UNION which was proving difficult to settle raced to his inside and therefore was obliged to race three wide and without cover. He said because of the hard run it endured, TURF LUCK gave ground quickly from the 600 Metres. He said in his opinion TURF LUCK would be better suited ridden behind midfield when drawn a wide barrier in the future. TURF LUCK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of TURF LUCK after the race did now show any significant findings. The performance of TURF LUCK was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TURF LUCK will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. CHAMP DE UNION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, CHAMP DE UNION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. CHAMP DE UNION, which performed poorly, will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KINGSTON WINNER and ARMONDO were sent for sampling.
