Racing Incident Report

While parading prior to the race, PRECIOUS MOMENTS kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, PRECIOUS MOMENTS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. AMBITION was slow to begin. On jumping, FAST TRACK was crowded for room between HONOURABLE which shifted out and BELONG TO US which had been standing awkwardly and shifted in. PRESENT TREASURE began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by FAIRWAY FINDER which shifted in. PRESENT TREASURE made the turn at the 1000 Metres awkwardly and was steadied away from the heels of HORACE'S HORSE. Near the 800 Metres, BELONG TO US became unbalanced when crowded for room inside AMBITION which after shifting to the inside of the heels of FAIRWAY FINDER was taken in further when FAIRWAY FINDER momentarily shifted ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. For some distance after straightening, FAST TRACK was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind THE GRAND ROOF and inside HONOURABLE. Throughout the race, WATCH KING, which was racing greenly, was obliged to travel wide and without cover. Apprentice M W Leung (AMBITION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Meters he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of PRECIOUS MOMENTS, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. Apprentice M W Leung's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 12 June 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Sunday 1 June 2003. THE GRAND ROOF and AMBITION were sent for sampling.
