Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, ARRIBA-ARRIBA stood flat-footed. MILLENNIUM SUPREME began awkwardly and got its head up. MR BEAUTIFUL was slow to begin. On jumping, KNIGHT TEMPLAR and AHEAD A HEAD bumped. Near the 1600 Metres, MR BEAUTIFUL was steadied when crowded for room inside TWEET which was taken in by BRAVISSIMO (B Prebble) which after initially being drawn to the outside of PEARL AND GOLD was steadied and then improved to the inside of that runner as it was shifting in. In the circumstances, no action was taken, but B Prebble was reprimanded and advised to exercise care. At the 1000 Metres, KNIGHT TEMPLAR was crowded for room inside BLACK CARBINE which was racing tight inside ETERNAL FUN which itself was laying in. PEARL AND GOLD, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Near the 800 Metres, BARRACUDA was checked to avoid the heels of PEARL AND GOLD and BRAVISSIMO when those runners steadied in front. At the 500 Metres, PEARL AND GOLD was crowded for room inside BRAVISSIMO which got its head on the side and shifted in away from BLACK CARBINE which itself shifted in slightly. Shortly after straightening, PEARL AND GOLD was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between KNIGHT TEMPLAR and MAXIMUM JOY which was giving ground. Throughout the race, ETERNAL FUN raced in a forward position, but was obliged to race wide and without cover. C Williams (KNIGHT TEMPLAR) explained making the Home Turn he was tightened for room between AHEAD A HEAD and inside the hindquarters of MAXIMUM JOY, then in the early part of the Straight he endeavoured to obtain a run on the inside of AHEAD A HEAD which shifted out slightly, was not able to do so, near the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of that horse and he considered shifting further, however, he was aware he would cause interference to runners on his outside. He said therefore he shifted back in to a position between AHEAD A HEAD and ETERNAL FUN where he felt there would be sufficient room for him to improve, however, he was aware that ETERNAL FUN was showing an inclination to shift in. C Williams was told his riding over the concluding stages of the race was of concern and whilst he may not have been able to finish in the placings, he was to ensure he fully tested his mounts at all times when circumstances permitted. Apprentice P H Lo (MAXIMUM JOY) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 2nd or 3rd position tonight and he was to stay away from the fence which meant he should be somewhere towards the outside of the leader. BLACK CARBINE, MR BEAUTIFUL and ARRIBA-ARRIBA were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted MILLENNIUM SUPREME had lost its right front plate.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 29 May 2003) :
AHEAD A HEAD was examined at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning by the stable Clinical Veterinary Surgeon Dr P J Schiff. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg.
Before being allowed to race again, AHEAD A HEAD will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
