Racing Incident Report

GOOD HEART was slow to begin. EVER MORE began awkwardly with its head up and then was bumped by GOLDEN PROMISE which shifted in. CHERISHED bounded in the air at the start. BRAVE KNIGHT was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of MY PARTNER which shifted out. In the early stages, ORIENTAL PEARL proved difficult to settle and near the 600 Metres became unbalanced when racing tight inside AMAZING. Near the 800 Metres, MY PARTNER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLDEN PROMISE which had its head on the side and shifted in slightly. At the 500 Metres, GOLDEN PROMISE, which continued to race with its head on the side, shifted in and brushed the hindquarters of AMAZING. S Dye (ORIENTAL PEARL) said in the middle stages he hoped to improve his position, however, he was travelling keenly behind GOLDEN FARM and inside AMAZING and when GOLDEN FARM did not quicken at that stage, he was unable to improve. He said ORIENTAL PEARL is a free running type of horse and had shown in the past that it did not respond when being hit with the whip. He said because of this and as he was of the opinion the horse was giving its best, he elected not to use the whip. ORIENTAL PEARL was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, ORIENTAL PEARL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ORIENTAL PEARL will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN PROMISE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOLDEN PROMISE, which had raced in a forward position and gave ground quickly shortly after straightening, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. The performances of GOLDEN PROMISE and NIC'S CUTE, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before these horses can race again, they will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BRAVE KNIGHT, V-CAN and AMAZING were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted MY PARTNER had sustained a laceration to the left front cannon. Before being permitted to race again, MY PARTNER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 6 June 2003) :
Following the race, GOLDEN PROMISE was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. GOLDEN PROMISE was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K C Lo yesterday morning and was noted at this time to have "jarred up" in both front legs. As previously advised, GOLDEN PROMISE will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
