Racing Incident Report

TIME OF RED WINE and SUPER DANA were slow to begin. HONOUR GRADE began awkwardly and then was slow to muster speed. RECOVERY began awkwardly and bumped the inside of its gate. Near the 700 Metres, RECOVERY was steadied and shifted in to obtain a position on the rail behind GOOD TIME FOR ALL. After the 600 Metres, KING ERIE was steadied when crowded for room between RECOVERY and GIFTED RUNNER which when being steadied to obtain cover behind EASY KING got its head on the side and momentarily shifted in. No action was taken. Near the 200 Metres, SUPER DANA was steadied when shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of EASY KING which was giving ground. D Beasley (EASY KING) said he anticipated leading in tonight's race, however, carrying 131 lbs on tonight's wet track, EASY KING failed to muster speed as expected and this allowed ETERNAL START and AMITY to race underneath him. He said he was off the bridle for the entire race and EASY KING commenced to give ground before straightening. He said in his opinion the manner in which EASY KING raced, although it had previously won on a good to yielding track, indicated to him the horse did not handle tonight's track conditions. EASY KING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of EASY KING after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of EASY KING was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, EASY KING will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RECOVERY and AMITY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 12 June 2003) :
After the race, EASY KING, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. EASY KING was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D Cruz this morning and at this time was noted to have significant muscular back pain and a restricted action behind. As previously advised, before being allowed to race again, EASY KING will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
