Racing Incident Report

GOOD WIN, which was standing badly, began very awkwardly, got its head up and consequently got back. EXCEPTIONAL began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. ADMIRAL was a little slow to begin. After the 800 Metres, EXCEPTIONAL was steadied away from the heels of ROUND THE WORLD. Throughout the race, NOBLE BOY was obliged to race wide and without cover and near the 600 Metres was carried wider by LATTE which shifted to the outside of BUDDIES POWER to improve. Near the 200 Metres, SMART WIN, which was giving ground, was momentarily crowded for room inside QUICK STEP. D Beasley (ROUND THE WORLD) said he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said ROUND THE WORLD did not begin as quickly as it did last start when it led, however, he was hopeful in the early stages that he would still be able to obtain a forward position. He said carrying 129 lbs tonight ROUND THE WORLD did not muster the necessary speed in what was a truly run race, was going to be caught three wide making the first turn, he therefore elected to come back to a position behind GOOD WIN and obtained cover which meant he was further back than he had hoped. He said he followed GOOD WIN and near the 600 Metres he had hoped to improve between that horse and TURF LUCK, however, as he endeavoured to do so, TURF LUCK shifted out and at the same time WAIALAE WIN improved around his outside which meant he was unable to improve. He said on straightening he shifted to the inside of NOBLE BOY to try and obtain clear running, was unable to do so for a short distance and consequently was not able to ride his mount out properly until inside the final 200 Metres. D Beasley accepted after having viewed the videos that on straightening there was an opportunity for him to improve on the outside of NOBLE BOY and inside GOOD WIN. He said however during the race he was unaware of this run presenting itself. The Stewards advised D Beasley his explanations would be reported, however, his riding particularly after the 600 Metres had been of concern and he should ensure he rides all mounts out in a manner which is not open to query. ADMIRAL, LATTE and TURF LUCK were sent for sampling. After the race, EXCEPTIONAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was moving stiffly behind and was moderately lame in the left fore leg. Before being allowed to race again, EXCEPTIONAL will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 19 June 2003) :
TURF LUCK was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the stables of Trainer S Woods this morning. He said the horse was lame in the right fore leg. Before being permitted to race again, TURF LUCK will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
