Racing Incident Report

MAGIC HANDS was slow to begin. After the 800 Metres, LOYAL DEVOTION got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of LUCKY STALLION. Near the 600 Metres, BEST LUCK clipped the heels of ONE MORE ROUND and blundered. JOYFUL SPIRIT and MY HONOUR were hampered in consequence. G Mossé (AIN'T HERE) said the horse was having its second start in Hong Kong today but was wearing blinkers for the first occasion. He said it was always his intention to be slow to begin in the hope of ensuring the horse obtained cover in a rearward position. He said after being boxed AIN'T HERE became fractious and missed the start, however, this was of little concern to him. He said he immediately obtained a position behind LUCKY STALLION in the early stages, however, after the 1200 Metres AIN'T HERE commenced to pull very hard and got close to the heels of LUCKY STALLION which itself steadied. He believed because of the manner in which AIN'T HERE was racing, if he did not shift the horse out, it might clip the heels of LUCKY STALLION. He said once AIN'T HERE shifted out after the 1100 Metres, the horse continued to over-race and pulled its way forward to race outside the leader, then on straightening failed to respond to his riding and tired noticeably. Mr D A Hayes, trainer of AIN'T HERE, said it was decided to apply blinkers to the horse today in an endeavour to get the horse to race more truly than it did at its only start in Hong Kong. He did say when the horse raced in Australia previously, it did carry blinkers and when wearing this gear had shown a tendency to over-race. Mr Hayes said it will now be his intention to vary the gear from which AIN'T HERE raced in today and also vary the horse's track work pattern in the hope of enabling it to settle better when it next races. AIN'T HERE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, AIN'T HERE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. MONARDS and THE DUKE were sent for sampling.
