Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted NOBLE GLORY had its tongue over the bit. That was replaced prior to the horse being boxed. NIGHT HUNTER II was slow to begin. NATURAL ECHO got its head up and began awkwardly. FIRST KNIGHT began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LUCKY BIRD. Over the concluding stages, NOBLE GLORY was unable to be ridden out when held up behind NIGHT HUNTER II which was giving ground. C Williams (NIGHT HUNTER II) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 5th or 6th position, but if possible despite having drawn gate 2 not to have runners on his outside and he was then to make his move on the point of the turn. He said NIGHT HUNTER II began awkwardly and lost ground, he therefore immediately came back a little further and shifted out to ensure no runner was to his outside, however, this meant he was racing at the rear. He explained the early section of the race in his opinion was run at a quick tempo, however, then the pace slackened noticeably which meant his horse commenced to over-race, then at the 800 Metres when BROSE'S HONOR which he had been following shifted in, he was left without cover and he elected to improve quickly around the field into the lead as he felt this was in the horse's best interest. Apprentice M W Leung (FORTUNE LAD) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in midfield with cover. He said after beginning awkwardly, he was able to gradually work his way across onto the fence in midfield by the 1400 Metres, however, he immediately became concerned that BIEN BIEN HEART which was racing to his outside was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TORI TOP which itself was coming back to find cover. He therefore elected to take his mount back to allow BIEN BIEN HEART sufficient room to shift to the fence in front of him. After this the pace of the race slackened and consequently he was shuffled further back to a position with the rear. He said in the early part of the Straight he was held up for some distance behind BIEN BIEN HEART and DOMINATION which was giving ground. He said to obtain clear running near the 300 Metres, he then shifted FORTUNE LAD out and the horse closed the race off nicely. Apprentice M W Leung was told his riding after the 1400 Metres had caused concern to the Stewards and in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to hold his position. NOBLE GLORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, NOBLE GLORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. FIRST KNIGHT, NATURAL ECHO and UNIVERSAL GLORY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 2 October 2003)
NOBLE GLORY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. NOBLE GLORY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer L Ho this morning and at this time was reported to be "jarred up" in both front fetlocks. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE GLORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
