Racing Incident Report

CHINESE KID began awkwardly. ALLEZ ALLEZ was a little slow to begin. DRAGON WIN began awkwardly and got its head up. At the 2000 Metres, DRAGON WIN was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY FORTUNE and tight outside ALLEZ ALLEZ. KASHMAC, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Making the turn into the Home Straight on the first occasion, MILLENNIUM SUPREME got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of KASHMAC which in turn was being steadied away from the heels of ALLEZ ALLEZ which made the turn awkwardly when steadied away from the heels of HAPPY FORTUNE. At the 1400 Metres, KASHMAC, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of PRODIGY. Over the concluding stages, KASHMAC was not able to obtain clear running between CHINESE KID and FLORAL DANCER which shifted out slightly. Because of this, KASHMAC was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. HAPPY FORTUNE and DRAGON WIN were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, HAPPY FORTUNE and DRAGON WIN were examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings with HAPPY FORTUNE and an endoscopic examination of DRAGON WIN showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being permitted to race again, DRAGON WIN, which tailed out, will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The performance of DAILY BREAD, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before DAILY BREAD can race again, it must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. W Woods (CHINESE KID), 4th placegetter, was found guilty of a charge of failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards [Rule 100(2)]. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for W Woods to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 13 November 2003 on which days he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Saturday 25 October 2003. FLORAL DANCER, NATURAL ECHO and LOK WAH TREASURE were sent for sampling.
