Racing Incident Report

On jumping, CHINESE KID got its head up and then was crowded for room between BURST TO VICTORY which shifted in and DASH FOR VICTORIES which shifted out after being bumped by OPTIC CHIEF. PERFECT GALLANT began awkwardly. In the early and middle stages, BURST TO VICTORY proved difficult to settle. Near the 1000 Metres, DIVINE FEELING was steadied to avoid the heels of CHINESE KID which shifted out away from the heels of CHEERFUL HEART. At the 600 Metres, OPTIC CHIEF was steadied away from the heels of LEUNG'S FAVOURITE. Near the 300 Metres, LA MERVEILLE was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between BROWN BEAUTY and CHINESE KID which shifted out slightly. H K Yim (OPTIC CHIEF) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of CHEERFUL HEART, causing that horse to be hampered and carried from its rightful running which in turn caused crowding on its outside to PRETTY DOUBLE which as a result was checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for H K Yim to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 15 January 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension is to take immediate effect. In the Straight, KING OF SPADES and PERFECT GALLANT hung in. Throughout the race, TATTLETALE raced wide and without cover. BURST TO VICTORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, BURST TO VICTORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had blood present at the right nostril and an endoscopic examination confirmed the horse should be reported as a bleeder. BROWN BEAUTY, CHEERFUL HEART and CHINESE KID were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that CHINESE KID had bled from both nostrils.
