Racing Incident Report

TWEET was withdrawn on 23.3.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WORLD STAR (Apprentice M W Leung). Before being allowed to race again, TWEET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PREMIER BURG was difficult to load. Before being permitted to race again, PREMIER BURG will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. HAPPY DRAGON began awkwardly, shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between SUPER DANA which shifted out and BULLSHOT which was carried in by WAH YAN MASCOT. POSEIDON was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between SPEED WINNER which shifted out and DJEREED which was carried in by PREMIER BURG which on jumping shifted in abruptly. On jumping, WORLD STAR knuckled. From a gate towards the outside, WINNING ASSOCIATES was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position close to the rail. Near the 1600 Metres, PREMIER BURG, which had been inclined to shift in, was straightened and was then steadied to avoid the heels of RED FIREBALL which initially had been shifting in of its own accord and then shifted in further away from GREAT KID which at this time was also shifting ground. In this incident, some crowding was caused to SPEED WINNER which was racing tight on the inside of PREMIER BURG and outside MULTI RANSOM which at this time shifted out slightly. In all the circumstances, no action was taken. In the middle stages and particularly making the turns, MULTI RANSOM hung out. For some distance after the 700 Metres, SUPER DANA was awkwardly placed behind MULTI RANSOM. Prior to straightening, WORLD STAR was carried wider by HAPPY DRAGON which shifted out. At the 400 Metres, SPEED WINNER was shifted to the outside of PREMIER BURG to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, MULTI RANSOM, which was racing ungenerously, shifted to the outside of RED FIREBALL to obtain clear running. Also near the 300 Metres, Apprentice C K Tong (PREMIER BURG) dropped his whip. Near the 100 Metres, POSEIDON, which was beginning to close the race off fairly, was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside RED FIREBALL which at this time was giving ground. Throughout the race, PREMIER BURG raced wide and without cover. Y T Cheng (RED FIREBALL), which had drawn a wide gate, said he was told if possible to try and ride the horse in midfield with cover and save ground. He said RED FIREBALL began well, a line of horses on his inside went forward and in his opinion he would not have been able to obtain a position close to the rail with cover. He said because of this to avoid racing wide, he allowed RED FIREBALL to go forward, cross to the fence in the lead and then let GREAT KID and TEA FOR CHAMP go forward of him to provide him with cover. The explanation of Y T Cheng was accepted. HAPPY DRAGON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, it was reported that HAPPY DRAGON had bled from both nostrils. SUPER DANA, TEA FOR CHAMP and GREAT KID were sent for sampling.
