Racing Incident Report

SALUZI, SUNDAY DELIGHT and DANCING BOY were slow to begin. Near the 700 Metres, TATTLETALE became unbalanced as a result of making contact with the hindquarters of SALUZI. At the 600 Metres, FLYING SUCCESS for some distance was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLORAL DANCER as a result of being carried out by SAMMY TREASURE (Apprentice K W Tsui) which shifted away from the fence to be outside WIN DANCER. Apprentice Tsui was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to show greater consideration for his fellow riders than he did on this occasion. Passing the 400 Metres, FLYING SUCCESS was held up and unable to improve between WIN DANCER which was giving ground and FLORAL DANCER. Near the 300 Metres, TATTLETALE was steadied when disappointed for running between GOLD FIELD which shifted out slightly and KING OF FIELD which shifted in when hanging. No action was taken. After this, KING OF FIELD continued to hang in. The performance of DANCING BOY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DANCING BOY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice K W Tsui explained he had been instructed to ride the horse about midfield and if possible ensure it finished today's race off. He said he had noted the horse is usually slow to begin and gets well back, therefore today after the horse began satisfactorily, he rode along in the initial stages to make sure it did not get too far out of its ground. He said when he did this SAMMY TREASURE immediately went forward, then over-raced and proved difficult for him to settle, as a consequence raced further forward than is usual. Mr Y O Wong, the trainer of SAMMY TREASURE, confirmed the riding instructions. The explanation submitted by Apprentice Tsui was accepted. FLORAL DANCER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FLORAL DANCER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FLORAL DANCER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TATTLETALE, OSCAR STAR and GOLD FIELD were sent for sampling.
