Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted FANTASTIC WINNER had lost its right front plate during the preliminary. The horse was re-shod and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PREMIER CRU was slow to begin. On jumping, X-SPEED and FOOD LOVER were crowded for room between GOLDEN MILE and SUPER MARKSMAN which got its head on the side and shifted in. From the outside gates, LUCKY ENCOUNTER and SOARING ANGEL were immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. Near the 1300 Metres, MILLENNIUM SUPREME was steadied away from the heels of LA MERVEILLE. When this happened, FOOD LOVER became awkwardly placed on the heels of MILLENNIUM SUPREME, shifted in and caused some crowding to PREMIER CRU which as a result steadied. At the 1100 Metres, SUPER MARKSMAN got its head up when momentarily placed close to the heels of X-SPEED. Near the 800 Metres, MILLENNIUM SUPREME was steadied away from the heels of BAYVIEW LAD. On straightening, X-SPEED was bumped by FANTASTIC WINNER which shifted out after being bumped by JOIN SUCCESS. Near the 100 Metres, PREMIER CRU, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of JOIN SUCCESS which at this time was giving ground. Then just prior to the winning post, PREMIER CRU was again steadied and shifted in when close to the heels of X-SPEED. Because of this, PREMIER CRU was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. For the major part of the race, X-SPEED raced wide and without cover and in the middle stages was allowed to stride forward. M Rodd (FOOD LOVER) explained entering the Home Straight he commenced to improve his position behind BAYVIEW LAD, however, his mount almost immediately started to hang in and because of this prior to the 200 Metres he changed the whip into his right hand. He said after the 200 Metres FOOD LOVER continued to hang in and at the same time BAYVIEW LAD which was racing forward of him and to his inside was drifting out. He said because of this he was not able to ride FOOD LOVER out as he normally would. The explanation submitted by M Rodd was accepted. SUPER MARKSMAN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER MARKSMAN after the race did not show any significant findings. X-SPEED, MILLENNIUM SUPREME and LA MERVEILLE were sent for sampling.
