Racing Incident Report

Prior to the running of Race 1, CYPRESS HILL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a punctured wound to its left front leg and as a result was lame. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. Before being allowed to race again, CYPRESS HILL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Due to power failure resulting in a number of lights on the track blacking out, the start of this race was put back 5 minutes. On jumping, COSMO SUCCESS and NOBLE SILENCE were hampered by CELEBRATION which shifted out abruptly. Also on jumping, RED POWER and HEALTHY WEALTHY bumped. Shortly after the start, LUCKSWELL was checked when crowded for room between HEALTHY WEALTHY and FORTUNE SMILES which shifted out. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, COSMO SUCCESS was momentarily crowded for room inside HEALTHY WEALTHY which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. At the 900 Metres, when the pace steadied, LUCKY GOOD DAY shifted out behind FORTUNE SMILES. When LUCKY GOOD DAY shifted out, it bumped RED POWER and carried that horse to a three wide position. After this, RED POWER was allowed to stride forward into the lead. Near the 800 Metres, FORTUNE SMILES got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of LANCETTIER. At the 600 Metres, COSMO SUCCESS was checked when crowded for room between CELEBRATION and HEALTHY WEALTHY which at this time got its head on the side and momentarily shifted in behind LUCKY GOOD DAY. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After this, HEALTHY WEALTHY hung in for some distance. Making the Home Turn, LUCKY GOOD DAY hung out. Approaching the 200 Metres, COSMO SUCCESS had difficulty obtaining clear running between CELEBRATION and LUCKY GOOD DAY. Passing the 200 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NOBLE SILENCE. HEALTHY WEALTHY, RED POWER and COSMO SUCCESS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LUCKSWELL was bleeding from the right nostril. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore it was not deemed to have bled.
