Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, DASH FOR VICTORIES became fractious and reared. The horse was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, DASH FOR VICTORIES will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. ALLEGRO and LUCKY BIRD were slow to begin. FABULOUS began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PREMIER CRU. POWER TICKER began awkwardly. PORT OF HOPE, which was following PREMIER CRU at the 600 Metres, was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse. Prior to straightening, LA MERVEILLE was steadied and shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREAT KID. When LA MERVEILLE shifted out, POWER TICKER was shifted away from that horse and made contact with PERFECT GALLANT which as a result became unbalanced. After the 400 Meters, PORT OF HOPE was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between PREMIER CRU and PERFECT GALLANT. After the 200 Metres, LA MERVEILLE was bumped by FABULOUS which at this time was shifting to the outside of GREAT KID. For some distance after the 200 Metres, X-SPEED raced tight inside GIDDY KIPPER. Over the concluding stages, PERFECT GALLANT got its head on the side and was inclined to lay in. For the major part of the race, LA MERVEILLE hung in. The performance of POWER TICKER, which had travelled in a forward position today, gave ground quickly on straightening and finished distanced, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, POWER TICKER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. R Fradd (PREMIER CRU) explained after passing the 700 Metres he considered shifting his mount which was travelling well to the outside of LA MERVEILLE. He said as he commenced to do this, PERFECT GALLANT improved around his outside and he felt if he shifted out he would cause interference to that horse, he therefore remained racing behind LA MERVEILLE. He said near the 600 Metres when LA MERVEILLE did not go forward, he was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse and for some distance steadied his mount. PORT OF HOPE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PORT OF HOPE after the race did not show any significant findings. LA MERVEILLE, GIDDY KIPPER and GREAT KID were sent for sampling.
