Racing Incident Report

BOBO WIN was withdrawn on 8.1.04 on veterinary grounds (temperature) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter OUR CLASS. Before being allowed to race again, BOBO WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KIDDYLAND bounded in the air at the start, then was bumped by VICTORY WARRIOR which shifted out. When the gates opened, KEY TO SUCCESS put its head down and began awkwardly. Near the 1000 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS got its head up and became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of GREAT DELIGHT. For some distance approaching the 600 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS was awkwardly placed outside GREAT DELIGHT and inside the heels of GALLANT KNIGHT. Near the 200 Metres, BEST LUCK, which had been held up when endeavouring to improve into a narrow run between KIDDYLAND and SUPER BROSE which was giving ground, was then checked when disappointed for this run as a result of SUPER BROSE being carried in slightly by FANTASY (D Boeuf) which shifted in when improving. In the circumstances, D Boeuf was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. For a considerable distance after the 200 Metres, KIDDYLAND was held up and unable to obtain clear running when racing behind VICTORY WARRIOR which was giving ground. After the 100 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS was steadied when disappointed for running between FIGURES and OUR CLASS which when being ridden out got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. In the Straight, CELESTIAL MAGIC hung out. F Coetzee (SUPER BROSE) said he made use of the horse in the early stages to prevent FLYING GENERAL crossing him. He said because of this SUPER BROSE then over-raced making the turn at the 800 Metres, however, shortly afterwards relaxed and enjoyed a nice run in the race. He said in the Straight SUPER BROSE did not quicken as he had hoped and in his opinion was not striding out as it should. SUPER BROSE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SUPER BROSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a moderate amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER BROSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (GREAT DELIGHT) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 5th or 6th position if possible, however, he was to ensure he raced away from the fence. He said in the early stages FIGURES which was racing in a position forward of him was shifting in and near the 800 Metres after crossing GREAT DELIGHT, FIGURES then steadied which in turn meant GREAT DELIGHT was steadied away from the heels of that horse. He said because of this GREAT DELIGHT raced further back than was intended. He said near the 600 Metres he shifted in to relieve pressure which was being applied to KEY TO SUCCESS on his outside as he was concerned with the position in which that horse was travelling inside the heels of GALLANT KNIGHT. He said in the Straight GREAT DELIGHT was finishing the race off fairly and after the 200 Metres he changed direction to the inside of FLYING GENERAL to ensure he had clear running. GREAT DELIGHT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GREAT DELIGHT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FANTASY and CELESTIAL MAGIC were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 12 January 2004)
SUPER BROSE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed the presence of a moderate amount of blood in the horse's trachea. SUPER BROSE was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz yesterday. He said at this time the horse was lame in the left front leg. As previously advised, SUPER BROSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
