Racing Incident Report

METRO FLYER, which was standing with its head turned to the left, was slow to begin. On jumping, JOHNNY JUMP UP blundered. TATTLETALE began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, TENNESSEE was crowded for room between BRAVISSIMO and KING PALM. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, KING PALM was severely checked when crowded for room between ON SHAN EXPRESS and HIGHLAND DAWN which shifted out away from the heels of TENNESSEE which steadied after having shifted to the fence when clear of HIGHLAND DAWN. GREEN VACATION, which was following, was checked in consequence. No action was taken. In the early and middle stages, FAIRPLAY raced wide and without cover. At the 1100 Metres, TENNESSEE got its head up when being steadied whilst awkwardly placed inside the heels of ON SHAN EXPRESS. At the 700 Metres, KING PALM was bumped by HIGHLAND DAWN. After straightening, ON SHAN EXPRESS was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TENNESSEE. Shortly after this, SHOW BRAVELY was shifted to the inside of the heels of ON SHAN EXPRESS into clear running. In the early part of the Straight, GREEN VACATION hung in. After passing the 200 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY was held up and unable to improve when racing in restricted room between KING PALM and ON SHAN EXPRESS. At the 100 Metres, JOHNNY JUMP UP was shifted to the inside of TENNESSEE to continue going forward. Over about the last 50 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY improved close to the heels of FAIRPLAY which was giving ground and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. S Dye (TENNESSEE) explained the horse was having its first start over 1650 Metres tonight and was stepping up from 1200 Metres. He said it was felt prior to the race the horse had pulled up well following its race last week and would be suited by the increase in distance. He said in tonight's race TENNESSEE was a little slow to begin as is usual, was then ridden along into a forward position, however, over-raced and consequently did not finish the race off. S Dye attributed the poor performance of TENNESSEE tonight to the manner in which the horse raced which led to it not running out the distance and also the fact that the horse had not backed up from its race last week. TENNESSEE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of TENNESSEE after the race did not show any significant findings. GREEN VACATION and HIGHLAND DAWN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 15 January 2004)
TENNESSEE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TENNESSEE was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time the horse was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, TENNESSEE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
