Racing Incident Report

NIGHT HUNTER II was slow to begin. On jumping, MILLENNIUM SUPREME got its head up and lost ground. ENERGETIC PRINCE and ELEGANCE began awkwardly. WATCHMAN, which was to be ridden in a rearward position from an awkward draw today, was immediately steadied on jumping and taken back in an endeavour to obtain a position nearer to the rail, however, was unable to obtain cover for the majority of the race, raced wide and without cover. After the 700 Metres, WATCHMAN was carried wider by SAMMY TREASURE which shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of NO COMPROMISE. After this, WATCHMAN hung out making the Home Turn and in the Straight. For some distance after the 600 Metres, ELEGANCE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of TOP DANCER and inside NO COMPROMISE. Near the 500 Metres, KING HORSE was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between WISHES and SAMMY TREASURE which shifted in slightly. After the 300 Metres, NIGHT HUNTER II was shifted in to avoid the heels of WATCHMAN. Near the 200 Metres, ENERGETIC PRINCE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of SUPERSONIC which was giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, ENERGETIC PRINCE was again steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of ELEGANCE which itself was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between SAMMY TREASURE and WAH YAN MASCOT which shifted out slightly. In this incident, ELEGANCE was hit over the nose by the whip of T Mundry (SAMMY TREASURE). Just prior to the winning post, ENERGETIC PRINCE was crowded for room between MILLENNIUM SUPREME and ELEGANCE which shifted out slightly. Because of this, ENERGETIC PRINCE was not ridden out to the finish of the race as it normally would be. S Dye (SUPERSONIC) said the horse raced with the lead as anticipated, proved a little difficult to settle in the early stages, but then over the concluding stages gave ground quickly. He said in his opinion SUPERSONIC did not run out the 1400 Metres of today's race at its first time of asking. SUPERSONIC was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SUPERSONIC was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. GREAT STAR and LIGHTING THE WORLD were sent for sampling.
