Racing Incident Report

ARRIBA-ARRIBA was withdrawn on 14.2.04 on veterinary grounds (skin allergy) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter HAIL WINNER (A Delpech). Before being allowed to race again, ARRIBA-ARRIBA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, LUCKY BIRD knuckled. NAZAKAT II and GREAT KID were slow to begin. ALLEGRO began awkwardly and lost ground. After straightening, HAIL WINNER, which had been following NO COMPROMISE, was steadied and shifted out to find clear running. To find clear running, HAIL WINNER was shifted to the outside of ACTIVE ACCOUNT. Throughout the race, ACTIVE ACCOUNT raced wide and without cover and making the turn after the 800 Metres was carried wider by GREAT KID which hung out. Apprentice K T Yeung (TORI TOP) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse, he therefore rode the horse along in the early stages and when he attempted to steady the pace after the 1400 Metres, TORI TOP proved difficult to settle and went faster than he had hoped. He said after the 600 Metres he was able to steady the pace on TORI TOP in the hope that it would manage to sprint on straightening, however, the horse failed to do so. The explanation of Apprentice Yeung was accepted. D Whyte (NAZAKAT II) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said NAZAKAT II's work leading into today's race was considered satisfactory, it enjoyed a nice run throughout, however, when placed under pressure near the 600 Metres failed to respond. NAZAKAT II was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, NAZAKAT II was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NAZAKAT II will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A Marcus (BAYVIEW LAD) said there was some concern prior to the race as to whether the horse would back up following its run 8 days previously. He said today he had been instructed to ride BAYVIEW LAD a little further back in the field as it was anticipated the race would be run at a good tempo. He said from shortly after the 800 Metres when he had raced tight inside ACTIVE ACCOUNT, he placed BAYVIEW LAD under pressure, however, the horse did not respond as he had hoped and in the Straight gave ground. He said the manner in which BAYVIEW LAD raced clearly indicated to him the horse did not back up today. The explanation submitted by A Marcus was accepted. BAYVIEW LAD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. TORI TOP was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, BAYVIEW LAD and TORI TOP were examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. DIVINE FEELING and ACTIVE ACCOUNT were sent for sampling.
