Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, SUNDAY DELIGHT became fractious, reared up and then put its head down which was momentarily caught under the front gates of its stall. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. TUSITALA was slow into stride. WAIALAE WIN began very awkwardly. MADE IN HONGKONG knuckled on jumping, shifted out and bumped THISTLEJADE which in turn shifted ground and caused crowding on its outside to MOUNTAIN KING, SALUZI and DON SEBASTIAN. LOK WAH TREASURE was slow to begin. Near the 700 Metres, WAIALAE WIN was crowded for room between STEP FORWARD and TUSITALA. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, UNIVERSAL GLORY hung in and bumped the running rail. Near the 200 Metres, LOK WAH TREASURE was steadied and shifted to the outside of SUNDAY DELIGHT to continue going forward. For the major part of the race, STEP FORWARD hung out and near the 200 Metres when being ridden out shifted ground and bumped ENORMOUS WAY. After this, STEP FORWARD continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, MADE IN HONGKONG raced wide and without cover, then before straightening commenced to give ground and finished tailed out. The performance of MADE IN HONGKONG, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MADE IN HONGKONG will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. O Doleuze (BROWN BEAUTY), which was having its first start on the All Weather surface today, said the horse did not travel at any stage of the race, was under pressure shortly after entering the Back straight when he commenced to ride along with the whip. He said BROWN BEAUTY did not respond and dropped out. He said as he thought there was something amiss with the horse, he did not persevere with it in the Straight. He did say in his opinion BROWN BEAUTY did not handle racing on today's surface. BROWN BEAUTY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BROWN BEAUTY after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. The performance of BROWN BEAUTY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BROWN BEAUTY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Williams (TUSITALA) said the horse was a little slow to begin, however, he was able to obtain a nice position in the early stages. He said making the first turn TUSITALA appeared to become unbalanced, after this commenced to hang out and then when placed under pressure did not respond and was most disappointing. He said after the race Mr D Oughton, the trainer of the horse, had said to him previously TUSITALA had performed poorly when racing on rain affected ground although that was on a turf track. C Williams said in his opinion TUSITALA did not handle today's track surface. TUSITALA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, TUSITALA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have mild throat inflammation. Before being allowed to race again, TUSITALA will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MADE IN HONGKONG was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MADE IN HONGKONG was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a laceration to the inside of its left hind leg. He also noted the horse had lost its left front plate. THISTLEJADE and FLORAL DANCER were sent for sampling.
