Racing Incident Report
LUCKY ENCOUNTER began awkwardly, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between NAOMERIC TE SPECSO which was carried out by NOBLE VICTORY and PERFECT SCORE which shifted in. SAMMY TREASURE was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, ELEGANCE was immediately steadied and taken back across behind runners to a position close to the rail. Near the 1200 Metres, LUCKY MASTER was checked when crowded for room inside WISHES which was carried in by ON SHAN EXPRESS which was also checked as a result of CHIU CHOW HERO getting its head on the side and shifting in away from NAOMERIC TE SPECSO (Apprentice C W Wong) which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Near the 900 Metres, LUCKY MASTER and WISHES were crowded for room inside CHIU CHOW HERO which got its head on the side and shifted in away from ALWAYS ZIETEN. The Stewards were satisfied this crowding did not occur as a result of any rider error, therefore no action was taken. After this incident, CHIU CHOW HERO continued to hang in. At the 700 Metres, ON SHAN EXPRESS was steadied when crowded for room between WISHES which was carried out slightly by SAMMY TREASURE and ELEGANCE which shifted in slightly. No action was taken. Making the Home Turn, NOBLE VICTORY hung out. In the early part of the Straight, NEW MILESTONE, which was endeavouring to shift to the outside of NAOMERIC TE SPECSO, was unable to do so when held in by PERFECT SCORE. As a result of this, for some distance NEW MILESTONE was unable to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, SAMMY TREASURE shifted out and bumped ON SHAN EXPRESS. After the 300 Metes, CHIU CHOW HERO was steadied and shifted to the outside of AMOUR to obtain clear running. In the Straight, LUCKY ENCOUNTER hung in and near the 100 Metres shifted ground and made contact with PORT OF HOPE on two occasions. After this, LUCKY ENCOUNTER continued to hang in and because of this was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. WISHES was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, WISHES was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. ON SHAN EXPRESS, SAMMY TREASURE and NOBLE VICTORY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 6 April 2004)
WISHES, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. WISHES was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer T K Ng last Sunday. He said at this time the horse was found to be lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, WISHES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
