Racing Incident Report

LUCKY HANDS was withdrawn on 26.4.04 on veterinary grounds (blood in trachea on scoping after exercise). Before being permitted to race again, LUCKY HANDS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte pleaded guilty to a charge of breaching Rule 64(1) in that on 23 April 2004, the day entries were published for this race, he did without reasonable cause break a firm riding engagement he had for FLYING BISHOP. For this breach, D Whyte was fined $10,000. SILENT PARTNER began awkwardly and got its head up. HIMALAYA began awkwardly. On jumping, FIVE GRAINS was bumped by FLYING BISHOP. TOM'S FIRST was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, KINGFIELD was immediately steadied and taken back in an endeavour to find cover. Near the 1400 Metres, FIVE GRAINS was crowded for room inside FLYING BISHOP which when proving difficult to settle was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPARKLING STAR. Near the 1000 Metres, SPARKLING STAR was steadied away from the heels of SUNSEEN which shifted in when barely clear. In the middle stages, SILENT PARTNER proved difficult to settle. Near the 700 Metres, AMBITIOUS TYCOON was brushed by FLYING BISHOP which at that time shifted out. For some distance after the 400 Metres, TOM'S FIRST was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPARKLING STAR. A Marcus (SUNSEEN) said at the horse's last start when ridden in a rearward position in what turned out to be a slowly run race, the horse proved very difficult to settle and consequently did not finish the race off. He said because of this tonight he had been instructed by Mr J Moore, the trainer of the horse, to steady from a gate towards the outside to remain wide in the early stages and see at what sort of tempo the race would be run before making a decision to go forward or back. He said in accordance with those instructions after beginning well he remained wide, before the 1600 Metes the horse travelled into a forward position without being made use of, he then elected at the 1000 Metres to press on, clear SPARKLING STAR and shift across to race outside HAPPY PARTNERS. The explanation submitted by A Marcus was accepted. FIVE GRAINS, AMBITIOUS TYCOON and HAPPY PARTNERS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported SUNSEEN was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUNSEEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
