Racing Incident Report

WINWIN COMBO was withdrawn on 10.5.04 on veterinary grounds (tied up) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter HIGH SKY. Before being permitted to race again, WINWIN COMBO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, GREAT SENSATION got its head up. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ENORMOUS WAY, which was laying in, was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BEST EVER. After the 1600 Metres, DEEP PURPLE was steadied when crowded for room between DANCING BOY and RED FIREBALL which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of TREASURE FIELD which shifted in slightly when not properly clear. Near the winning post, DEEP PURPLE was steadied to avoid the heels of TREASURE FIELD which shifted in slightly. In the Straight, RED FIREBALL hung in. Throughout the race, TREASURE FIELD raced in a forward position but three wide and without cover. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred after the 200 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether GREAT SENSATION should be declared the winner of the race. S Dye, the rider of BEST EVER, 2nd placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against GREAT SENSATION (Y T Cheng) being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount after the 200 Metres. The Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that near the 100 Metres GREAT SENSATION which had its head on the side and was hanging in shifted ground abruptly and bumped the hindquarters of BEST EVER which itself was shifting out. As a result of this bump, both BEST EVER and GREAT SENSATION became unbalanced. As the Stewards were of the opinion that BEST EVER at this time was shifting out and therefore had some contribution to the incident, S Dye's protest/objection was overruled and the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. In acknowledging BEST EVER had shifted out and therefore contributed to this incident, the Stewards decided in the circumstances bearing in mind the degree of the shift from GREAT SENSATION that Y T Cheng be reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. When questioned, Mr K C Lo, the trainer of GREAT SENSATION, said prior to the horse's two previous race starts when being saddled and in the Parade Ring, GREAT SENSATION had been very much on the toe, sweated up badly and consequently did not run up to expectations. He said tonight GREAT SENSATION was far more relaxed and whilst it did sweat up in the Parade Ring had paraded much better than it had in recent times. Mr Lo said GREAT SENSATION had shown itself to be a temperamental horse and he attributed tonight's improved performance to the horse being far more relaxed prior to the race. FLORAL DANCER, GREAT SENSATION and BEST EVER were sent for sampling.
