Racing Incident Report

MAGNIFICENT was withdrawn on 25.5.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER MARKSMAN (T Mundry). Before being allowed to race again, MAGNIFICENT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BRILLIANT WIN began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground at the start, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between NOBLE VICTORY which shifted out after initially being carried out by LUCKY MASTER and GOOD MOOD which was carried in by PLEASURE PLESAURE which in turn was carried in by SILLY BOY. No action was taken. LUCKY VICTORIES and TRI MAGIC were slow to begin. Prior to the 800 Metres, NICKU NICKU was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SILLY BOY which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from SUPER MARKSMAN which itself shifted in slightly. In the middle stages, PLEASURE PLEASURE hung out. On straightening, PLEASURE PLEASURE was disappointed for running between SILLY BOY and C'EST LA VIE. In the Straight, NOBLE VICTORY hung out and near the 200 Metres shifted ground and caused some inconvenience to GOOD MOOD which at this time was giving ground. W M Lai (FIRST KNIGHT), 6th placegetter, pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. For this breach, W M Lai was fined a sum of $20,000. Y T Cheng (GOOD MOOD) explained the horse sweated up badly prior to the race again today, then throughout the run was inclined to lay in and in the Straight after being inconvenienced near the 200 Metres did not feel right in its action, therefore he eased the horse down over the concluding stages. GOOD MOOD and NOBLE VICTORY were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOOD MOOD was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was showing signs of heat distress. As this was the 4th occasion from 7 race starts on which GOOD MOOD had been reported to be showing signs of a heat distress, Mr D Cruz, the trainer of the horse, after consulting the owner of the horse advised the Stewards GOOD MOOD will now be retired. A veterinary examination of NOBLE VICTORY after the race did not show any significant findings. TRI MAGIC and BRAVE COMMANDER were sent for sampling.
