Racing Incident Report

BEST EVER was withdrawn on 8.6.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FUJI SUNRISE (G Mossé). Before being allowed to race again, BEST EVER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUJI SUNRISE was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of BOUNTIFUL after being bumped by WE'RE BUDDIES. Shortly after the start, WINWIN COMBO was steadied when crowded for room inside ACTIVE ACCOUNT which was carried in by DOLBRIDGE (M Zahra). M Zahra was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise more care than he did on this occasion. Near the winning post on the first occasion, when being steadied to obtain a position with cover, JUST TOO GOOD got its head on the side, lay in and was checked away from the heels of JUST IN TIME. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ACTIVE ACCOUNT got its head up when racing tight inside CHEERFUL BOY. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, FUJI SUNRISE became unbalanced and shifted out. On straightening, WINWIN COMBO was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of MULTI RANSOM. Near the 200 Metres, FUJI SUNRISE was brushed by WE'RE BUDDIES. After the 200 Metres, HARRY HARRY, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of MULTI RANSOM which itself when giving ground was carried out by WINWIN COMBO (A Delpech) which whilst being ridden along got its head on the side and shifted out when not properly clear. A Delpech was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. Shortly after this incident, WINWIN COMBO and DOLBRIDGE bumped. Near the 100 Metres, WE'RE BUDDIES again shifted out and made contact with FUJI SUNRISE. For the major part of the race, JUST TOO GOOD raced wide and without cover. J Holder (CHEERFUL BOY) said he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly with cover and do his utmost to ensure it finished the race off. He said because of those instructions after CHEERFUL BOY had jumped well, he immediately took hold of the horse, allowed other runners to travel forward of him, shifted across to a position behind WE'RE BUDDIES and this was near the rear. C Williams (JUST IN TIME) explained he went forward on the horse in the early stages, however, near the winning post on the first occasion he became concerned as the horse appeared to become unbalanced and change stride. He said at this time JUST TOO GOOD shifted across behind him and in his opinion made contact with the hind legs of JUST IN TIME. He said after this JUST IN TIME appeared unbalanced in its action, in his opinion the horse then did not stretch out and he became concerned with its left fore leg. He said because of this he eased the horse out. JUST IN TIME was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of JUST IN TIME after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, JUST IN TIME will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JUST TOO GOOD, DOLBRIDGE and WINWIN COMBO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 10 June 2004)
JUST IN TIME, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. JUST IN TIME was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to have a stiff, restricted action of the left hind leg with rump and hamstring muscle soreness. As previously advised, JUST IN TIME will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
