Racing Incident Report

SUPER BLITZ and ASALI were slow to begin. When the gates opened, FLORAL DYNAMITE bounded in the air and shortly afterwards was bumped by MR COOL which shifted out. Also when the gates opened, TOM'S FIRST stood flat-footed and was slow to begin. In the early stages, AGILITY proved very difficult to settle. After the 1500 Metres, LANCETTIER, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked to avoid the heels of MR COOL (Apprentice H W Lai) which steadied when crossing into the lead. Apprentice Lai was advised against the practice of steadying the pace in the face of the field when crossing to the fence. After this incident, LANCETTIER continued to prove difficult to settle and near the 800 Metres was allowed to stride forward into the lead. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, due mainly to the pace of the race, a number of runners got their heads up and proved difficult to settle, the worst sufferers being FLYING BISHOP and AMBITIOUS TYCOON. Near the 300 Metres, SUPER BLITZ had difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of FLYING BISHOP. B Prebble (ROYAL ARMY) explained from a wide gate he was obliged to race wide and without cover in the early and middle stages. He said after being bumped by ASALI near the 800 Metres, ROYAL ARMY commenced to lay out, refused to take the turn and as a consequence despite his efforts the horse ran off making the Home Turn. Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL ARMY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. ROYAL ARMY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ROYAL ARMY after the race did not show any significant findings. VENGEANCE OF RAIN, ASALI and FLORAL DYNAMITE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 September 2004)
ROYAL ARMY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. ROYAL ARMY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer T W Leung yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL ARMY will also be subjected to an official veterinary examination in addition to the official barrier trial around a bend requirement as previously advised.
