Racing Incident Report

At the time of declarations, B Prebble was declared as the rider of both HIGH PRICE and EQUUS ZEPHYRUS. It was established that B Prebble had a firm commitment to HIGH PRICE and as such permission was given for S Dye to be substituted as the rider of EQUUS ZEPHYRUS. For this double declaration, B Prebble was fined $2,000. On jumping, EQUUS ZEPHYRUS and LA MERVEILLE bumped. ABLE MARS was slow to begin. At the 1200 Metres, HIGH PRICE was steadied when crowded for room between POWERFUL and WATCHMAN (A Delpech) which shifted in when not properly clear. A Delpech was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. After the 1000 Metres, COSMO STAR, which had been racing in an awkward position outside ABLE MARS and inside WATCHMAN, was steadied to avoid the heels of WATCHMAN which when proving difficult to settle was carried in slightly by GREAT STAR (A Marcus) which shifted in when barely clear. When COSMO STAR was steadied, inconvenience was also caused to HIGH PRICE. Both A Delpech and A Marcus were advised against the practice of steadying as they cross other runners. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, MILLENNIUM DAWN hung out. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, NEW CENTURY bumped the running rail when momentarily crowded for room by WINNING ATTORNEY which at this time was proving very difficult to settle and shifted ground. WINNING ATTORNEY continued to be difficult to settle for a considerable distance and after the 700 Metres got its head up when close to the heels of COSMO STAR. After the 300 Metres, WATCHMAN was steadied when disappointed for running between ARIGATO and FLYING DRAGON. After this, WATCHMAN shifted to the inside of ARIGATO and caused some crowding on its inside to ABLE MARS which got its head on the side and shifted in further which in turn caused crowding on its inside to POWERFUL. NEW CENTURY, which was towards the inside of POWERFUL, was steadied and shifted out to avoid that horse. After the 200 Metres, POWERFUL and ABLE MARS were again crowded for room inside WATCHMAN which at this time was carried in slightly by ARIGATO. No action was taken. Over the concluding stages, NEW CENTURY was unable to obtain clear running between FLYING DRAGON and ARIGATO. Consequently NEW CENTURY was not ridden out as it normally would be. In the Straight, LA MERVEILLE hung in. GREAT STAR, EASY PUNCH and HIGH PRICE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted COSMO STAR had sustained a minor wound to the right knee. Before being allowed to race again, COSMO STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
