Racing Incident Report

The Stewards today interviewed Mr B K Ng, the trainer of DASHING WINNER, as to the circumstances regarding the horse being mistakenly treated with Pentosan yesterday morning. Pentosan is an anti-arthritic medication. DASHING WINNER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LUCKY SIXER (O Doleuze). Mr Ng pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 50(2) in that he was negligent in the running of his stable and was fined $20,000. FLYING BISHOP was slow to begin. MAGIC MAIL and KIDDY SING began awkwardly. After the 1600 Metres, MAGIC MAIL and KA KA WIN were crowded for room inside HEALTHY WEALTHY (W Woods) which was shifting in when not properly clear. W Woods was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to ensure he is properly clear of runners before shifting ground. For the major part of the race, SUPER BLITZ raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. Over about the final 150 Metres, AMBITIOUS TYCOON hung out and was difficult to ride and near the winning post shifted out, causing crowding to SHANGHAI KING which as a result was carried out and in turn caused crowding on its outside to FLYING BISHOP which was steadied. Because of the crowding to these horses, neither SHANGHAI KING nor FLYING BISHOP were ridden out to the line as they normally would be. S Dye (MIGHTY HUGO) explained after being boxed the horse was fractious and continually moving in its stall. He said when the gates opened MIGHTY HUGO was not standing well, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. He said shortly after this MIGHTY HUGO was checked when crowded for room between AMBITIOUS TYCOON and HEALTHY WEALTHY which was taken in slightly by LUCKY SIXER. He said it was because of these incidents that MIGHTY HUGO got further back in today's race than is usual. The explanation submitted by S Dye was accepted. HEALTHY WEALTHY and SUPER BLITZ were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HEALTHY WEALTHY and SUPER BLITZ after the race did not show any significant findings. MIGHTY HUGO, LUCKY SIXER and AMBITIOUS TYCOON were sent for sampling.
