Racing Incident Report

Making the turn near the 2000 Metres, WAVY PEAK was steadied when crowded for room between EXULTATION which at this time got its head up, was proving difficult to settle and shifted out and BROWN BEAUTY which shifted in. After the 2000 Metres, SPECIFIC SORCEROR, which was proving difficult to settle, shifted out away from the heels of ENORMOUS WAY. At the 900 Metres, GREAT SENSATION got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BROWN BEAUTY. On straightening, WINWIN COMBO blundered after bumping TEA FOR CHAMP when endeavouring to shift to the outside of CHINOOK. In the Straight, BROWN BEAUTY hung in and just prior to the winning post was shifted away from the heels of MYSTIC FORCE which shifted out. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by F Coetzee (MYSTIC FORCE), 2nd placegetter, against SPECIFIC SORCEROR (B Doyle), the winner of the race, alleging interference in the Home Straight The Stewards considered that after the 250 Metres MYSTIC FORCE was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between ENORMOUS WAY and SPECIFIC SORCEROR which at this time were clear. After this, MYSTIC FORCE was shifted towards the outside of SPECIFIC SORCEROR in an endeavour to improve between that horse and BROWN BEAUTY, however, prior to establishing running between those horses was again steadied when disappointed as a result of both horses shifting ground. After this near the 100 Metres, MYSTIC FORCE was shifted towards the inside of SPECIFIC SORCEROR in an attempt to find clear running, however, prior to establishing rightful running was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of SPECIFIC SORCEROR which at this time shifted in slightly. After this, MYSTIC FORCE was shifted to the outside of SPECIFIC SORCEROR into clear running. The Stewards were of the opinion that at no stage had MYSTIC FORCE established rightful running to either the inside or outside of SPECIFIC SORCEROR at the respective times. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. When questioned regarding the improved performance of SPECIFIC SORCEROR, Mr K W Lui, trainer of the horse, said it appreciated the step up in distance to 2200 Metres tonight. He said at the horse's last start, in his opinion it was not suited by the track which on that day was running quick times. He said in his opinion SPECIFIC SORCEROR appreciated the kinder surface tonight and he had also asked B Doyle, its rider, because of anticipated slow pace to have the horse slightly further forward than is normal. When questioned, G Mossé (FUJI SUNRISE) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the horse was well fancied by the stable entering into the race. He said after the 600 Metres when he endeavoured to improve his position, FUJI SUNRISE failed to respond to his riding and he felt there might have been something amiss with the horse. FUJI SUNRISE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of FUJI SUNRISE after the race did not show any significant findings. SPECIFIC SORCEROR and MYSTIC FORCE were sent for sampling.
