Racing Incident Report

During its preliminary, NOBLE BOSS was very fractious and dislodged O Doleuze, its rider. After arriving at the Start, it was noted the tongue tie worn by NOBLE BOSS was incorrectly fitted. This was rectified before the horse was placed in the stalls. Mr K L Man, trainer of NOBLE BOSS, was fined $3,000 for negligently presenting NOBLE BOSS with incorrectly fitted gear. NOBLE BOSS began awkwardly and was steadied away from the heels of MASTERY. Apprentice H W Lai (WINNING SUNSHINE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after passing the winning post on the first occasion he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of KAISER'S PRIZE, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of DENDRANTHEMA LOVE which as a result was checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Lai to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 11 November 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension is deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 30 October 2004. Making the first turn, MASTER GIGOLO improved to the inside of the heels of THE KING after initially having drawn to the outside of that horse. As this occurred, THE KING shifted in slightly, resulting in MASTER GIGOLO and MASTERY being crowded for room for some distance and MASTER GIGOLO eventually being steadied. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 1200 Metres, MASTERY and THE KING (D Dunn) were crowded for room inside BYRON (W Woods) which momentarily shifted in. No action was taken. However, both D Dunn and W Woods were warned regarding their conduct during an inquiry into this incident. In the early and middle stages, KAISER'S PRIZE proved difficult to settle. After the 400 Metres, MASTER GIGOLO was steadied away from the heels of THE KING which was giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, WINNING SUNSHINE was shifted out in an endeavour to improve between KIDDYLAND and FORTUNE SMILES where there was not full running. As WINNING SUNSHINE endeavoured to improve between these horses, FORTUNE SMILES got its head on the side, shifted out slightly and then shifted further after being bumped on the hindquarters of WINNING SUNSHINE, causing WINNING SUNSHINE to be disappointed for the run and checked. As a consequence of WINNING SUNSHINE shifting out in an endeavour to obtain running, KIDDYLAND was hampered and carried wider on the track. As the Stewards were satisfied WINNING SUNSHINE had not established running between KIDDYLAND and FORTUNE SMILES, no action was taken. KAISER'S PRIZE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KAISER'S PRIZE after the race did not show any significant findings. MASTERY, CELESTIAL STEEL and FORTUNE SMILES were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that MR COOL had bled from both nostrils. Also after the race, it was noted THE KING had lost its left hind plate.
