Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, SPECTACULAR HIT bounded in the air and lost ground. ALAKAZAM was slow to begin. In the early stages, SUNDAY DELIGHT proved difficult to settle and raced wide and without cover, then after passing the 600 Metres was allowed to stride forward and crossed to the fence in the lead. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SHENANEGAN was tightened for room inside WINWIN COMBO which in turn was racing tight inside BROWN BEAUTY. At the 600 Metres, SPECTACULAR HIT was steadied away from the heels of WINWIN COMBO. On straightening, OUT OF MY WAY was steadied away from the heels of MYSTIC FORCE. Near the 300 Metres, SPECTACULAR HIT was steadied and shifted towards the outside of WINWIN COMBO. After this, SPECTACULAR HIT got its head on the side, was inclined to lay in and raced close to the heels of WINWIN COMBO for some distance. At the 300 Metres, SHENANEGAN became unbalanced when improving into a tight run between MEMBERS GLORY and GREAT SENSATION which was giving ground. At the 50 Metres, WINWIN COMBO was struck over the head by the whip of F Coetzee (MYSTIC FORCE). Just prior to the winning post, WINWIN COMBO was steadied away from the heels of BROWN BEAUTY which shifted out. Because of this, WINWIN COMBO was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. B Doyle (GREAT SENSATION) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said from a favourable barrier the horse began well, he decided to endeavour to hold a reasonable position running into the first turn to avoid being shuffled too far back. He said when he did this GREAT SENSATION immediately commenced to over-race and travelled much further forward than was anticipated. GREAT SENSATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GREAT SENSATION after the race did not show any significant findings. BROWN BEAUTY and MYSTIC FORCE were sent for sampling.
