Racing Incident Report
ACCOLADE bounded in the air at the start and lost ground, then in the early stages proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions was steadied away from the heels of HEROIC ATTRIBUTE. GLOBE RIVER, which was standing badly, began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. GLOBAL FORTUNE was slow to begin. GALLANT HORSE began awkwardly and bumped GOLD SANDFIELD which also shifted in. JOYFUL WORLD began awkwardly and shortly afterwards stumbled. Near the 1000 Metres, PURPLE GOLD was awkwardly placed inside the heels of EASY PUNCH and was steadied. After the 800 Metres, GALLANT HORSE commenced to over-race and for some distance got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEROIC ATTRIBUTE, at the 600 Metres shifted out away from the heels of that horse and in doing so carried ENCHANTED wider on the track. Also after the 800 Metres, JOYFUL WORLD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY KID, shifted out and carried HEROIC ATTRIBUTE wider. After the 600 Metres, AURELIAN hung out. Making the Home Turn, HEROIC ATTRIBUTE hung out. In the early part of the Straight, GLOBE RIVER got its head on the side and hung in. After the 200 Metres, DESERT STORM, which was beginning to close the race off, was momentarily steadied when tightened for room between HEROIC ATTRIBUTE and ACCOLADE which at this time was commencing to shift out. D Whyte (GOLD SANDFIELD) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a prominent position, however, if the pace was slow he should go forward and lead. He said after beginning well he rode along to go forward, HAPPY KID went forward with him on his inside and in his opinion the pace was only moderate. He said because of this he allowed GOLD SANDFIELD to continue forward, crossed to the lead on the fence and then steadied the pace even further. Mr C H Yip, trainer of GOLD SANDFIELD, said he had instructed D Whyte to ride the horse just behind the lead, however, he was not to fight the horse and if the pace was moderate he should allow GOLD SANDFIELD to travel forward. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported GOLD SANDFIELD was making an abnormal breathing noise. HEROIC ATTRIBUTE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HEROIC ATTRIBUTE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HEROIC ATTRIBUTE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. EASY PUNCH and JOYFUL WORLD were sent for sampling.
