Racing Incident Report
RIGHT CHOICE was a little slow to begin and then near the 1100 Metres got its head up and lost ground when reluctant to hold its position while awkwardly placed inside MAGNIFICENT HORSE. MASTER ABLE began awkwardly, got its head up, became unbalanced and lost ground. MASTER ABLE made the turn at the 1000 Metres awkwardly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HORACE'S HORSE. For some distance in the middle stages, MILLION CHASE, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEAUTY PLUS. Making the Home Turn, MASTER ABLE hung out. In the Straight, RIGHT CHOICE hung in and near the 250 Metres shifted ground and brushed the running rail. After the 200 Metres, EUPHORIC KID was steadied when unable to improve between AUSPICIOUS ODYSSEY and MILLION CHASE which became unbalanced and shifted in. After the 50 Metres, EUPHORIC KID was again steadied when crowded for room between AUSPICIOUS ODYSSEY and MILLION CHASE which shifted in. S Dye (TROPHY) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said its work leading into tonight's race had been good. He said TROPHY began well, he allowed it to travel forward in the initial stages and near the 1100 Metres he elected to steady and come back to find a position with cover to avoid racing wide. He said TROPHY travelled well until just prior to straightening, however, when placed under pressure failed to respond and did not close the race off in its customary manner despite his riding. Mr P O'Sullivan, trainer of TROPHY, said he was happy with the horse going into tonight's race and he was unable to offer an explanation for the horse's performance. He said he will wait and see how the horse is after it cools down before he makes any decision on its immediate programme. TROPHY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, TROPHY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, TROPHY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPERSONIC and BEAUTY PLUS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 6 January 2005)
TROPHY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TROPHY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P O'Sullivan this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the left hind leg and have sustained a cut to the left hind fetlock. As previously advised, TROPHY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
