Racing Incident Report

PAOBRIDGE was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (lame left hind). Before being allowed to race again, PAOBRIDGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, FLASHING STAR became fractious, broke through the front gates of its stall and dislodged D Holland, its rider. FLASHING STAR was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, FLASHING STAR will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. D Holland was examined by the Club's doctor who said he was suitable to fulfil his riding engagement. After the race, it was noted FLASHING STAR had blood present at its left nostril. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean. FLASHING STAR therefore was not deemed to have bled. Shortly after the start, CLASSA FOR EVER was steadied when crowded for room between ARABIAN WAGER which shifted in and EVERY TIME which was carried out by STARDANE which itself was carried out by KIMBERLEY MINES. After the 800 Metres, CLASSA FOR EVER, which had been hard ridden to make up ground, was crowded for room between KIMBERLEY MINES and HIGHLILLI which momentarily shifted in. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, HIGHLILLI was unable to maintain its position between always welcome and CLASSA FOR EVER which got its head on the side and shifted out. After the 400 Metres, SHOGUN was steadied away from the heels of HIGHLILLI which itself was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of ALWAYS WELCOME which shifted in slightly when giving ground. After the 200 Metres, KIMBERLEY MINES was steadied when awkwardly placed between CLASSA FOR EVER and FLASHING STAR. Near the 100 Metres, STARDANE was bumped on the hindquarters by SHOGUN. G Mossé (ALWAYS WELCOME) said he had been instructed to ride the horse forward and if possible with cover. He said horses drawn to his inside showed superior speed, however, he rode along to ensure he had a forward position but was not able to obtain cover and raced wide throughout. He said because of the effort exerted by ALWAYS WELCOME in the early stages, the horse started to give ground after the 600 Metres and in his opinion raced "flat" tonight. The Stewards will allow Mr D A Hayes, trainer of ALWAYS WELCOME, an opportunity of explaining the horse's performance at a date to be fixed. CLASSA FOR EVER, which performed poorly, was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CLASSA FOR EVER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSA FOR EVER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KIMBERLEY MINES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KIMBERLEY MINES after the race did not show any significant findings. SHOGUN, ARABIAN WAGER and WINNING COUNTER were sent for sampling.
