Racing Incident Report

EXULTATION began awkwardly. On jumping, MAMOUSKA was crowded for room between SOUND OF SILENCE and WINWIN COMBO, both of which shifted ground. Shortly after the start, KING PALM and FOREVER WIN bumped. Near the winning post on the first occasion, PURPLE GOLD was checked when crowded for room between STOIC and WINWIN COMBO which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from MAMOUSKA which shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate to take action. EXULTATION, which was following PURPLE GOLD, was hampered in consequence. Near the 1300 Metres, KING PALM was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between WINWIN COMBO and TOUCH DOWN. Near the 1100 Metres, EXULTATION got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PURPLE GOLD. After the 600 Metres, MAMOUSKA was steadied when crowded for room between FOREVER WIN and TOUCH DOWN which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. Near the 400 Metres, PURPLE GOLD and STOIC raced tight as STOIC endeavoured to shift to the outside of WINWIN COMBO to obtain clear running. Near the 250 Metres, COULDN'T CARE LESS was momentarily crowded for room inside SOUND OF SILENCE when improving into a narrow run on the inside of that horse which was drifting in. Also near the 250 Metres, PURPLE GOLD, which was inclined to hang in, was steadied when close to the heels of TOUCH DOWN. Apprentice P H Lo (TOUCH DOWN) explained from a wide barrier he was caught racing three wide without cover behind midfield in the early stages. He said after entering the Back Straight the tempo of the race appeared to steady and the field bunched up, he became aware that it would not be possible for him to shift in to a position with cover, he therefore elected to allow his mount to stride forward and join the lead to avoid the possibility of being pushed wider making the turn after the 600 Metres. He said when he allowed TOUCH DOWN to travel forward after the 800 Metres he did not have to ride along to make ground as the horse was travelling comfortably underneath him. He said in the Straight TOUCH DOWN then failed to finish the race off. COULDN'T CARE LESS and MAMOUSKA were sent for sampling.
