Racing Incident Report

DANSKE VERY MUCH began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out and bumped KAISER'S PRIZE, then after the 1200 Metres when racing ungenerously again got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of KAISER'S PRIZE. Shortly after the start, DRAGON AND GOLD was steadied when crowded for room between CRYSTAL and REGENCY HORSE, both of which shifted ground. On straightening, SMART HORSE was bumped by DRAGON AND GOLD which at this time shifted towards the outside of CRYSTAL to obtain clear running. Over about the final 200 Metres, CRYSTAL hung in. Apprentice C K Tong (ASSET PLAY) said he had discussed the manner in which the horse should be ridden with Mr S Woods, trainer of the horse, prior to the race. He said it was anticipated today's race would be run at a fast speed and from an awkward barrier he was asked to allow the horse to drop in in the hope that it would close the race off. He said ASSET PLAY began awkwardly, bumped with WINNING POWER and he immediately steadied his mount to a rearward position. Mr Woods said the horse which was having its third race start today for his stable had been disappointing when being taken on in the lead at its previous two starts. He said because of this he felt today from a wide barrier in a race that appeared to have a lot of pace in it it would be in ASSET PLAY's best interest to race where it was comfortable in the hope that it would close the race off. He said in the immediate future he will intend to have ASSET PLAY ridden where it is comfortable depending on the pace of the race. G Schofield (OSCAR STAR) said it had been intended to ride the horse in a prominent position. He said OSCAR STAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SPECIAL LENGTH, then despite his riding failed to muster speed and consequently got well back. He said after the 1200 Metres he steadied away from the heels of SHARE THE FUN as that horse shifted in in front of him and because of this he ended up racing with the rear. The explanation submitted by G Schofield was accepted. OSCAR STAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of OSCAR STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. SHARKI and CRYSTAL were sent for sampling.
