Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, BRAINS TRUST and FLAMING LAMBORGINI became fractious. Both horses were removed from their barriers and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion they were suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, BRAINS TRUST and FLAMING LAMBORGINI will both have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. BRAINS TRUST then began awkwardly, throughout the race travelled wide and without cover and was carried wider making the turn at the 600 Metres by CROWNED GEM. ZABEBE began awkwardly, lost ground, then became unbalanced and was steadied away from the heels of CROWNED GEM. EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was slow to muster speed. At the 1000 Metres, SUPREME MOLLY was checked severely to avoid the heels of FLYING GENERAL (Apprentice C K Tong) which after crossing to the rail when clear steadied the pace as Apprentice Tong, its rider, ceased to ride along. Apprentice Tong was severely reprimanded and told he is to ensure he rides his mounts in a manner which will not allow them to unreasonably steady the pace in front of the field. ZABEBE, which was following SUPREME MOLLY, was hampered in consequence, carried wider and caused crowding on its outside to HAPPY MASTER which was steadied. At the 800 Metres, SUPREME MOLLY became unbalanced, blundered and lost ground. As a consequence, ZABEBE, which was following, was checked. Prior to the 400 Metres, FLAMING LAMBORGINI was steadied when disappointed for running inside SNIPPEDYDOODA. Prior to straightening, SUPREME MOLLY, which was awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of SNIPPEDYDOODA, brushed the running rail, became unbalanced and lost ground. As a consequence of this, ZABEBE, which was following SUPREME MOLLY, was shifted out, clipped the heels of FLAMING LAMBORGINI, blundered and shifted further, resulting in MOVE IT being bumped and hampered. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. After the 100 Metres, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when unable to continue improving between SUCCESSOR and SNIPPEDYDOODA. After this, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT shifted towards the inside of SNIPPEDYDOODA and in the run to the line raced tight with SUCCESSOR which was crowded. Over the concluding stages, when EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was racing tight inside SNIPPEDYDOODA, that horse got its head on the side, was inclined to lay in and because of this was not ridden out as it normally would be. BRAINS TRUST and SUPREME MOLLY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BRAINS TRUST after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, SUPREME MOLLY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained lacerations to the left hind leg and the right front leg. ZABEBE, FLAMING LAMBORGINI and FLYING GENERAL were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 April 2005)
ZABEBE was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg as a result of a laceration and bruising to the tendon of that leg. Before being permitted to race again, ZEBEBE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
