Racing Incident Report

PERFETTO was withdrawn on 29.1.05 on veterinary grounds (left fore infection) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DASH AHEAD (Apprentice H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, PERFETTO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Mr C Fownes, the trainer of GOOD HEART, was fined $5,000 for presenting that horse in the Parade Ring with blinkers which were not part of the horse's declared gear. The blinkers were removed from GOOD HEART prior to the horse leaving the Parade Ring. ROYAL FALCON was slow to begin. AMPLE GAINS began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. GOOD HEART was slow to begin. After the 900 Metres, SUNBELL and DASH AHEAD were crowded for room outside ROYAL FALCON which at this time shifted out. Shortly after this, ROYAL FALCON was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of WINNING CAT which at this time became unbalanced and lost ground. Near the 100 Metres, WONG'S SUCCESS, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between DASH AHEAD and WINNING CAT, both of which shifted. No action was taken. For the major part of the race, WONG'S SUCCESS and AMPLE GAINS raced wide and without cover. D Holland (WINNING CAT) said the horse became disunited in its action at the 800 Metres and he thought it had broken down. He said shortly afterwards WINNING CAT again became unbalanced. Mr S Woods, the trainer of WINNING CAT, will be spoken to regarding this matter. GOOD HEART and KALIMANTAN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GOOD HEART after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, KALIMANTAN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, KALIMANTAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VERY FIT and AMPLE GAINS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported WINNING CAT had sustained a laceration to the back of the right hind fetlock.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 31 January 2005)
WINNING CAT was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S Woods this morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to have some restriction in its hind limb action and significant muscle pain in the back.
