Racing Incident Report

PACIFIC ALLIANCE bounded in the air and lost ground at the start. AHEAD A HEAD began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. KONRAD THE GREAT was slow to begin. MAGIC TEMPLE was slow to begin and then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between WINNING KEVIN and THE ONLY ONE which got its head on the side and shifted out. Near the 1000 Metres, CLASSA WIN was crowded for room inside AHEAD A HEAD which got its head on the side and shifted in away from GALLANT FALCON after initially being carried in by that horse. After this, AHEAD A HEAD continued to hang in for some distance. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, WINNING KEVIN became unbalanced. After the 600 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE was steadied and lost ground when racing behind GALLANT FALCON which at this time was giving ground. On straightening, GALLANT FALCON, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between MAGIC TEMPLE which shifted in slightly and PHOENIX FORTUNE which shifted out away from KONRAD THE GREAT (G Mossé) after being bumped by that horse which was endeavouring to improve towards the outside of WINNING KEVIN which itself was shifting to the outside of AHEAD A HEAD. Shortly after this, KONRAD THE GREAT was shifted out away from the heels of WINNING KEVIN when not clear of PHOENIX FORTUNE, causing that horse to be steadied. G Mossé was told whilst the Stewards accepted there were some circumstances surrounding the incident, he should at all times ensure to exercise care. Throughout the race, GALLANT FALCON raced wide and without cover. Mr D Cruz (MONEY STRONG) explained the horse's improved performance tonight was as a result of it being able to lead and dictate terms. He said at its last start as the rider reported to the Stewards the horse did not show sufficient speed to lead and then in the Straight hung in. Mr Cruz said the instructions for MONEY STRONG are consistent in that the intention is to lead, however, at times the horse does not begin well and the instructions are not able to be carried out. Mr Cruz was told he should do his utmost to ensure horses trained by him where possible perform satisfactorily. D Whyte (GALLANT FALCON) said although obliged to travel wide the horse was comfortable underneath him until making the turn after the 600 Metres. He said GALLANT FALCON at this stage commenced to give ground and whilst it was interfered with on straightening, in the circumstances this was of little significance on the horse's performance. He said the horse did not feel right in its action. GALLANT FALCON was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, GALLANT FALCON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. The performance of GALLANT FALCON was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, GALLANT FALCON will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PHOENIX FORTUNE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PHOENIX FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. MONEY STRONG and CLASSA WIN were sent for sampling.
