Racing Incident Report

MASTER ABLE began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. GUNG HO began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. DRAGON BOOM, which was leaning against the inside of its stall, bounded in the air as the gates opened and lost ground. METRO LEADER was slow to begin, then for the major part of the race hung out and near the 800 Metres shifted out, bumped the hindquarters of HEALTHY and was checked. METRO LEADER then continued to hang out badly, prior to straightening shifted out, was checked away from the heels of TOP SCORER and in the Straight gave ground, finishing tailed out. The performance of METRO LEADER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, METRO LEADER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, CANNONISE and GIFTED RUNNER became unbalanced after bumping as a result of CANNONISE being carried out by HEALTHY which in turn was carried out by DR HAENSLER. Prior to straightening, HEALTHY became unbalanced. Throughout the race, GUNG HO travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight hung in. E Saint-Martin (CLASSIC HORSE) explained at the horse's most recent start he had the horse begin well and went forward, then he hoped he would be crossed and provided with some cover, however, this did not eventuate, CLASSIC HORSE continued to race in the lead and did not finish its race off. He said following this race on 15 February 2005 CLASSIC HORSE was ridden more quietly in a barrier trial and its performance in this trial was much better, then today it was decided to ride CLASSIC HORSE quietly with cover in the hope that it would close the race off. He said CLASSIC HORSE travelled comfortably in the run around midfield, however, after the 400 Metres when endeavouring to improve between UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR and MANGROVE, he was disappointed for running, steadied, then gradually shifted out and near the 200 Metres obtained clear running. He said CLASSIC HORSE closed the race off fairly over the concluding stages, but in his opinion raced in a manner which indicated it would be suited by a distance of further than 1200 Metres. G Schofield (UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said he enjoyed a comfortable run throughout, however, when placed under pressure on straightening the horse failed to respond to his riding. He pointed out the horse did perform poorly on the All Weather Track at its last start and with the rain affected track today the ground was somewhat shifting and maybe this had a bearing on the horse's performance. UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR after the race did not show any significant findings. ZEONIC FRONTIER and CANNONISE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DARTER had lost its right front plate.
